Walking bootsneed to be as waterproof as possible to keep your feet warm and dry in a downpour half the way up a mountain.

In the final picture you can see that the water beads up nicely where I put the wax on, but there isn't a visible seam differentiating where I waxed and where I didn't, and the water is beading up nicely from the factory waterproofing seal.

Shoes can really vary in terms of their ability to withstand major weather events and it also depends on what treatment has been applied during the manufacturing process. Ensure the surface is clean and dry by dusting it off or using a damp cloth to wipe it and then leaving it to dry. Not wanting to scald the wax I made a double boiler with an appropriately sized and pan and metal mixing bowl. Apply a generous but even layer of the cream to the shoe’s surface, focusing on seams and stitching.

It may be beneficial for those who prefer a more casual and laid-back look, or for those who desire more room in their clothing for ease of movement or layering. To check the water repellency, sprinkle a few drops of water on the shoes; if it beads up and rolls off, your shoes are now effectively waterproofed, ready to keep your feet dry in wet conditions. Waterproof shoes are uniquely designed to prevent water from entering, keeping your feet nice and dry. We've tried using beeswax for shoes to answer all-important questions like how to protect suede shoes, how to waterproof leather boots and whether you really can use beeswax for waterproofing shoes. It has many uses, from furniture and saddles to shoes, and you can see some examples of how to use it to help you see how it can be a comprehensive beeswax leather care. And the maintenance doesn’t stop there… To keep your feet nice and dry this winter, as well as nice and clean, you should try to stick to a cleaning routine.

Apply the polish to the shoe in even circular motions with the stiffer of the brushes or with a cloth. I have recently (against my better judgment ) posted how it is done to best effect even though I earn a living doing this (and some other things obviously) I am happy to share the knowledge. For some inspiration on getting out and about in your newly waterproofed shoes, why not take a look at our top winter walking tips? I prefer using blocks of natural beeswax only because I can more readily tell that they are pure wax without additives. This will have the effect of pulling the toecap up - but it also permenantly forms the end of the boot, so when you walk the area does not crack (as there is no need for it to move - it is pre-shrunk). But, before your go wild waxing up all your expensive footwear – you need to understand a bit more about the outcome.
