Description

The librarian of Auschwitz is based on the experience of real-life Auschwitz prisoner 14 year old Dita Kraus, who risked her life to keep the magic of books alive during the holocaust. The characters felt so real (well of course, seeing how they are based on real people) and there were plenty of emotional moments as much as tense ones. Dita is brave and steadfast, and becomes the librarian of a barrack used as a school in case of an inspection. verdade que com pão para comer e água para beber o homem sobrevive, mas só com isso morre a humanidade inteira.

Hirsch enthused them about Zionism; he trained them in sport; and he also got them to perform plays which were performed in front of the SS. Even with the large number of characters, none were really delved into, and didn’t really develop throughout the book. When Jewish leader Fredy Hirsch entrusts Dita with eight precious volumes the prisoners have managed to sneak into the camp, she embraces the responsibility — and so becomes the librarian of Auschwitz. Incidentally, at the end of the book, the author describes his meeting with Dita Kraus and how they went to Terezin together.Reading the graphic, I found myself confused about a few of the things that went on in Auschwitz and that impacted the main character, Dita, personally.

I haven't read the original version of the book yet, so I can't speak to it as an adaptation, but being brand new to this particular story, I thought this was brilliantly well done. Es ist schön, wie der Autor es geschafft hat, die Magie, die Bücher ausüben können, in die Geschichte einzubauen (die im Übrigen auf wahren Begebenheiten beruht). In this incredibly dark place, they were a reminder of less sombre times, when words rang out more loudly than machine guns. However, when the Red Cross did not show up to inspect the camp, the Nazis went ahead and dismantled it by killing 3000 people in a single blow. However, Hirsch had managed to acquire a tiny library of just eight books, some of them incomplete or damaged – an atlas, a geometry treatise, H. The people in the book appear under their real names: the only changes Iturbe has made is in the surnames of the librarian and of her future husband. It is thick with characters, with confusing and often similar names, so it is easy to get some of the characters mixed up, but overall the novel was entertaining, powerful and heart-warming.
