Alexandra, raised in lavish wealth, marries a powerful man whose pride is his pedigree and who assumes that Alexandra is her parents' natural offspring. Released during what many consider to be the "Golden Age" of Danielle Steel's writing career, this book exemplifies her ability to create page-turners that keep readers hooked from beginning to end. However, with this one, I think I would have enjoyed it more had I known what was going on and what it was trying to do. A deftly written family saga that explores—and challenges—the contemporary American dream and the meaning of home and family. Then there’s the recurrence of the name “James,” which I felt added such soul and heart to the book as a whole.

You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.By covering 20 of the world’s most inspiring, colourful homes and talking to the interior designers, stylists and creatives behind them, interiors journalist Amy Moorea Wong explores how to incorporate pigment into interiors projects, the easy steps to embracing colour indoors and the modern twists to make every room pop. True to its title, Wong’s overarching account of one family’s business is told with beautiful imagery but reveals individual pieces that show how things are not what they appear to be.

Each story is preceded by two of Selznick’s trade mark black and white illustrations – first a kaleidoscopic fragment and then a linked image both to the story and the kaleidoscope. Wong has seamlessly captured the entire Brighton family—how they grieve and how they love one another, what they want and what they need from each other. She is also the author of His Bright Light, the story of her son Nick Traina’s life and death; A Gift of Hope, a memoir of her work with the homeless; Expect a Miracle, a book of her favorite quotations for inspiration and comfort; Pure Joy, about the dogs she and her family have loved; and the children’s books Pretty Minnie in Paris and Pretty Minnie in Hollywood. With its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and a touch of mystery, this novel is a must-read for fans of Steel's work. Brian Selznick proves to be that rare creator capable of following one masterpiece -- The Invention of Hugo Cabret -- with another even more brilliantly executed.

I seem to be the odd one out here in that I really didn't take away anything from the stories themselves nor the overall "tapestry" trying to be built here. While each tale seems like a sliver of a larger story we'll never learn, we get the impression that we're hearing the best part. The plot is very interesting, about 3 sisters who are separated when little and each of them lives a very different life than the other, and when they grow up they find each other and its amazing to see how completely DIFFERENT they are. I've been recommending it for children 10+, and many adult friends too, as the ideas are layered enough to provide a rich and interesting read.

Inspired by a trip to France they have created twenty-four brightly coloured projects between them, all using Rowan yarns and Debbie Abrahams Beads.Cecily Wong’s dazzling second novel deftly explores the complex push-pull of family and ambition, and the ways we learn to define ourselves in—and out of—our loved ones’ orbits. I studied at The Rhode Island School of Design and after I graduated from college I worked at Eeyore’s Books for Children in New York City. You just have to read a novel like this, it will touch you, make you think and at the same time entertain you. A lovely, gentle story about a bear who wanders off and loses his family, and how he gets help from an unexpected source to find his way back home.
