His form of selfishness is just a bit more subtle than the likes of Sue from Diamond Girls, or Tracy Beaker's mum Carly. It's a short book and quick to read, so it was the first of the books I got this Christmas, that I decided to read. Near summer, Ruby, realising that the school where the TV movie is being filmed at is a prestigious boarding school for girls, Marnock Heights, decides that the pair ought to sign up for scholarships—of which there is only one.

I remember reading this book myself as a child, it was one of the early Jacqueline Wilson books and one which I re-read countless times! Double Act is a children's novel by Jacqueline Wilson, written in the style of a diary, which features identical twins Ruby and Garnet. Jacqueline Wilson's bestselling novel about identical twins has been widely acclaimed, winning the Smarties Prize, the Children's Book Award and being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. What I liked about this book: I liked having the two sides to the story, both Ruby and Garnet sharing their thoughts and opinions on the different events in the book.

Obviously Richard is entirely responsible for his own prickish behaviour, but the catalyst is Rose, his slightly dotty new lady-friend who sells bric-a-brac. I watched the TV movie version of Double Act last night and really enjoyed it, so today I decided to reread the book. So then fate throws her another chance, and her Guardian newspaper has an advertisement for identical twin girls to audition for a TV show.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Then another opportunity comes when they send a letter to the headmistress of Marnock Heights, a boarding school. In my opinion this is a portrait of modern families narrating the positive and negative stages of two teenagers. As the first could lead to a revenge attack involving the twins switching places during a prison visit sometime in a blissfully unaware future, the second option is tidier and ties up all loose ends. Actually, speaking as an adult, it's much easier to see what a complete and utter piece of shit the father is, too.
