I don’t deserve her time, not in the least, but I’m so desperate for some part of this woman back that I’ll steal every second that I can get. The ending was very wholesome and yes, I admit it, quite a bit kitschy too, but it was a romance so DUH!

He can switch moods in a moment, change scenes in an instant, flip the script without anybody even realizing it’s happening. It made me sad to see how their relationship deteriorated and how deep Jonathan fell and if I’m entirely honest it’s a wonder Kennedy actually gave him a second chance. The only bright light in her life is her five-year-old daughter—a sweet, headstrong little girl she’d do anything to protect from harm, even if it means never telling her who her father is. I don’t know what it was about this book but as soon as I opened up that first page, and started reading I was hooked, this author just has a way with words, a unique storyline that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go until you’ve inhaled that very last page. You’re the caterpillar that went into the cocoon and emerged a glorious butterfly, but I’m the reminder that butterflies don’t stick around long, a few weeks at most before they’re gone.

Through constant flashbacks to their shared past, we become invested in their love story, but we also get to see firsthand how much Jonathan’s mistakes have cost them both, how much Kennedy has sacrificed in the course of their relationship, and what it took to eventually make her walk away from it all. There were many things he did that made you want to smack him in the head, but he was also struggling with his own problems. At the point the story picks up, he is clean and sober and making amends, getting a second chance to slowly find his way back home. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this book: not a character, not any aspect of the plot, and certainly not the writing style, which I’ll get to later. The two of us always seemed to be on the same page until the day we just weren’t anymore, and there was no way to get back to that place once we struggled so much to communicate.Going into a league that very few novels go into, I felt the love because I not only experienced it through the characters - but I conjured up some of my own for the little things.

Maddie was her precious girl, the centre of her universe and there was nothing she wouldn’t have done for her daughter. I’ll be taking a brief break from contemporary romance so that I can come back to the genre feeling fresher.
